I’ve been through my Blink XT2 for a while now, and I’ve been so fond of it so far. When it was announced, I immediately ordered two. Today I will get them. I have to say it’s a bit disappointing, but with the price point, I think I’ll stick with it.
I’ll start with the good part. It is very small. When I placed my Wyze camera side by side, the mini Blink looked a little smaller, even though they were more or less the same size. I love the look and feel.
The installation was very simple. My phone had to connect to the camera info site first, but the app’s user interface took a step further.
The camera image was good, a bit more elegant than other luxury cameras, but it does it.
The camera position is almost identical to the XT2. Good for simple security reasons. It lacks standard features like an indoor camera such as sound detection, 180-inch image conversion, CO2 / smoke detection, etc., and does not have advanced features for arm recording or disarming weapons based on time of day, or geographical location. I don’t think you can link to IFTTT or other parties, although I’m wrong about that.
Here’s what I think the mini lacks in comparison to its competitors.
1. The base of the camera is very careless and cheap. The camera is so light, again, it looks really cheap.
The ball joint connects the camera and the base is completely loose. I was afraid the camera wouldn’t hold its place, but it did … probably because of the camera’s clear head. In general the construction is not particularly good.
3. Field in the common member is limited. You can’t climb into the wall, the camera can nest on the wall. You have to look at at least 20 degrees. This means that the camera is too high, otherwise it will focus on the legs, not the face. I tried to mount it to a 6-7 foot high wall, uncomfortable. I finished putting it on the table.
4. There are no AI capabilities, which I think is known as early as 2020. I think I’ll be willing to get a lot of fake messages after that.
5. The application is a bit inconsistent at the moment. I tried live broadcast several times, once I got the “live view fail”, and again the “busy camera”. Hopefully this will be fixed through software updates.
6. While fiddling with the setting I saw that the recording time and reset time can be changed, which is great. Then I realized I had a free trial, and the app did nothing to tell me about it. I remember seeing it on the Amazon page. So I went back to check again, yes. I will get the beta version by the end of 2020, after which I will pay $ 3 per camera per month. I wasn’t expecting much from it, as the XT2 doesn’t require any subscriptions. I may not use it live in 2021 if it lasts too long.
